DOUGLAS WALKER: NEW WORKS
OCTOBER 13 - NOVEMBER 6
OPENING: FRIDAY OCTOBER 14, 7-9PM
'New Works’ is Douglas Walker’s first solo exhibition at Parts Gallery. This series of paintings was made to reflect a personal ethos "to depict not the thing but its essence."
Douglas Walker was born in 1958 in Brockville, Ontario. He rose to prominence in the Toronto art world of the 1980s and is included in 'Tributes and Tributaries,' the AGO’s survey show of that period. He recently toured ‘Other Worlds’; an exhibition of large paper paintings that was shown at six museums across Canada. In 2015, he completed two large blue and white glass tile murals for the City of Markham. He has also exhibited at the ICA in London, in New York at the DIA Art Foundation, and the 49th Parallel. In Toronto he has shown at the AGO, the PowerPlant, the Art Gallery at Harbourfront, MOCCA, YYZ and Mercer Union. Canadian exhibition venues include the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Dunlop Art Gallery. Walker was the focus of a travelling mid-career retrospective, curated by The Mendel Art gallery, and an overview of his career was featured at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. Many of the above exhibitions were accompanied by a catalog. He has received awards from the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council. Douglas lives and works in Toronto.
Please join us for an opening reception with the artist present on Friday October 14th from 7-9PM.
